About Us

The School comprises approximately 45 full-time academic staff engaged in teaching and research across a wide area of sub-disciplines within economics including econometrics and economic history.  The School undertakes the majority of teaching in the Bachelor of Economics Degree (BEc). Students can also major in Economics within the Bachelor of Commerce Degree (BCom), the Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) and the Bachelor of Social Science Degree (BSocSc). There are several combined degrees in Economics including BA BEc, BSc BEc and the BEc LLB.

Programs

The School has been consistently ranked first amongst the major Australian Universities in the quality of its teaching in Economics. The School is involved in teaching in three postgraduate degrees. The Master of Commerce (MCom) is a Business School-wide degree in which students can choose a number of subjects in Economics, or can choose to major in Economics within that degree.   The MCom (Hons) is a research degree consisting of some advanced coursework plus a thesis. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a research degree involving advanced coursework and a thesis.

Research

Research in the School is of a high calibre by both national and international standards. The School ranks either first, second or third within Australia on a variety of research performance criteria and members of the School play an important part in the policy issues and debate within Australia. The School frequently has important national conferences in economics, econometrics and economic history, and has an active seminar series program and a program of one-day workshops. Many of the members of the School play a prominent role in relevant societies and provide senior advisory roles to government and business. The School also attracts considerable research funding from the Australian Research Council and other bodies.
