Australian Institute for Population Ageing Research (AIPAR)

The Australian Institute for Population Ageing Research (AIPAR) as a UNSW Research Institute is to capitalise on the strong interest and commitment by UNSW researchers and potential private and public sector, which has been reinforced through the recent NHMRC/ARC and ARC Linkage Grant successes. Operating as a funded network, AIPAR will draw together multi disciplinary teams of population ageing researchers. It is anticipated that AIPAR will generate considerable growth in UNSW research outcomes and lead to a successful application for Centre of Excellence funding within the next three years.

With more than a quarter of Australians over 65 years of age by 2050, the need to manage and resource population ageing is of national significance. To that end, the Australian Institute for Population Ageing Research will provide the following benefits for government, industry and academia.

Centre for Applied Economic Research (CAER)

CAER's primary emphasis is on applied economic research relevant to policy issues. For more than 30 years a significant body of such research has been carried out and the results published in academic journals, books and the Centre's own publications. The Centre also conducts conferences and workshops and publishes an academic journal titled Economic and Labour Relations Review which is published jointly with the Industrial Relations Research Centre. Most of the research is carried out in research groups.

Centre for Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM)

CEEM at the University of New South Wales brings together researchers in UNSW and partner organisations with the key objective of providing Australian research leadership in the interdisciplinary design, analysis and performance monitoring of energy and environmental markets and their associated policy frameworks.

Centre for Energy and Research Policy Analysis (CERPA)

The UNSW Centre for Energy Research and Policy Analysis is a multi-faculty institute focused on innovation and understanding in all aspects of energy generation, utilisation and conservation.

Centre for Pensions and Superannuation (CPS)

CPS brings together a number of pension specialists whose core interests lie in the fields of public and labour economics, finance, and actuarial studies. Professorial Associates are drawn from universities in Australia, the USA, Europe and Japan, and its Research Associates are also internationally positioned.

The Centre provides a focal point for Australian and international researchers specialising in pension economics, financial strategies for life-cycle investment, pension taxation, social security, and related disciplines. Industry and public sector involvement is seen as a vital part of the Centre’s activities which are oriented towards bridging the gap between academe, industry, and policymakers. CPS hosts conferences and workshops, organises lectures by international experts, and sponsors academic and policy based research.

Economic Design Network (EDN)

The ARC Economic Design Network (EDN) is a research network funded by the Australian Research Council to support research and scholarship in economic theory and experimental economics, and in their application to the design of economic policy. By encouraging interdisciplinary research and policy innovation, using state of the art techniques in economic theory and experimental economics, it will create practical tools that can be used to solve complex social and economic problems. By linking Australasian researchers into multidisciplinary teams and networks involving some of the best scholars and centres for economic theory and experimental economics around the world, it will build on our strengths and help us to create a world class economic design capacity in the region. The Economic Design Network is funded by a five year ARC grant with additional funds contributed by some participating institutions. EDN official website
